The World Avocado Association launches an educational campaign in India to promote avocado consumption
For the second year in a row, the World Avocado Association (WAO) has launched an educational campaign targeting consumers and food companies in India, aiming to promote the health benefits of avocados and their versatility in local cuisine. This initiative seeks to increase the fruit's popularity in this emerging market and is supported by South African avocado growers, who recently gained access to the Indian market.
Derek Donkin, CEO of the South African Avocado Growers' Association, commented that traditionally, South African avocado exports have been primarily destined for Europe and the UK, which account for 95% of shipments. However, with increased production, India offers a new and promising avenue for growth, providing consumers with a wider selection of high-quality fruit.
Zac Bard, president of the WAO, expressed his enthusiasm for the continuation of the campaign in India. According to Bard, the 2023 campaign generated significant interest and a substantial increase in avocado consumption across the country. The WAO anticipates this trend will continue as Indian consumers discover the health benefits and unique flavor of avocados, increasingly incorporating them into their daily diets.
