Global Avocados' Experience in Avocado Season in Portugal
The avocado season in Portugal has brought unexpected surprises, according to Rocío Rodríguez, commercial director of Global Avocados, the leading Portuguese exporter. Despite expectations of increased demand for large avocados, the market has shown growing interest in medium and small sizes. Customers' willingness to accept the higher prices of large avocados has driven this trend. Although weather conditions have slightly affected production and sizes, the quality of the fruit remains exceptional, generating increasing demand across Europe.
Global Avocados is responding to this increased demand with investments in ripening chambers and new packaging formats. In addition, the company is exploring expansion opportunities by introducing its avocados to domestic supermarkets and international markets. However, ripening remains a crucial challenge for the company, as it is a delicate process that impacts its growth.
With a couple of weeks remaining in the season, Global Avocados projects maintaining its market presence until the end of March or the beginning of April. Although a decrease in supply is expected during March and April, the company is confident that its strong position and product quality will allow it to remain competitive in the constantly evolving market.
