Avocado imports in Europe increase by 6%, while Spain registers sharp price increases

The European avocado market closed the week with 706 shipments entering the country, representing a 6% increase compared to the previous week, although it is still 5% below the volume recorded in the same period last year.

Israel continues to lead the supply with a 29% share, followed closely by Spain with 28%. Further behind are Peru (16%), Morocco (11%), Colombia (10%), and Chile (5%). The most significant change in supply came from Peru, which increased from 78 shipments to 116, marking a 50% increase in one week. In contrast, Israel reduced its shipments by 14%, although it still exceeds 200 weekly shipments.

As for prices, stability has been the general trend in the European market, especially in Rotterdam, where both the largest and smallest sizes have shown only slight variations, with increases of 2% and 5%, respectively.

However, the situation in Spain has been different. In this market, prices have risen sharply, with a 19% increase for size 18 and a 44% increase for size 30, reflecting a significant adjustment in fruit demand and availability.

As the season progresses, market behavior is expected to continue adjusting based on supply from major producing countries and the evolution of demand in European markets.
