Fluctuations in Colombian avocado exports: The United States and Europe in the spotlight

Analysis of weekly avocado export volumes from Colombia during 2024 shows a clear trend in market preference, mainly highlighting the fluctuation between the United States and Europe.

From the beginning of the year until week 14, Europe remained the main destination for Colombian exports, with a considerable lead compared to other markets. However, starting in week 15, a significant change was observed: the United States took the lead as the main market, while shipments to Europe began to decline slightly.

The peak period for Colombian avocado shipments occurred between weeks 23 and 25, when volume reached its highest point before gradually declining. Despite this decrease, the US market remained the preferred destination for Colombian avocados until week 30, when Europe regained its leading position.

Subsequently, exports to the United States fell sharply. In the following weeks, projections indicate that only one or two containers will be shipped to the United States, while the European market will receive around 50 containers, thus solidifying its position as the predominant destination for Colombian avocados in the coming weeks.
