In week 9, Europe recorded 753 avocado shipments arriving at its main ports, representing an 8% decrease compared to the previous week. However, compared to the same week last year, the volume is 12% higher, maintaining a weekly level above the historical average for this period.
The market share structure shows a highly diversified landscape. Spain is the leading supplier with 28% of the total, followed by Israel with 24% and Colombia with 22%. Peru accounts for 11%, while Morocco has 7% and Chile 5%. Mexico slightly exceeds 1%, and Kenya and Brazil are also present.
In terms of weekly trends, Kenya and Brazil stand out for their sustained growth in their share of shipments, advancing rapidly week after week. Spain also shows a 13% increase compared to the previous week, while Peru's rose by 4%. In contrast, Israel registered a 13% drop, Colombia declined by 17%, and Chile experienced a 48% decrease.
In Rotterdam, prices reflect a general decline. No particular size is particularly affected; rather, the drop is distributed across large, medium, and small sizes, with adjustments ranging from 8% to 12%.
From Colombia, Jorge Molina reports that export volumes continue to decline week after week. He explains that this week's volume closed approximately 15% lower than the previous week. While clarifying that it is not a collapse, he does acknowledge a trend that is beginning to solidify, which could translate into a gradual loss of Colombian market share in Europe over the coming weeks.
