Europe is moderating its pace of avocado imports after a sharp increase in previous weeks.

The European avocado market closed week 43 with a significant reduction in import volumes, registering 653 containers, a 35% decrease compared to the previous week. Even so, the total remains 26% higher than the volume for the same period in 2024, reflecting that, despite the weekly adjustment, the market continues to operate at higher levels of activity than last year.

In terms of market share by origin, Chile maintains its leading position with 29% of imports, followed by Peru with 21%, which still holds a significant presence in the market. Colombia ranks third with 15%, while South Africa and Israel remain active with 13% and 12%, respectively. Kenya and Tanzania together contribute 8%, and Mexico appears with a 3% share, a modest but noteworthy figure for that origin in Europe.

The weekly decline is largely explained by reduced arrivals from Chile, Peru, and Mexico, while Israel and South Africa showed partial increases. However, South African volumes are beginning to decline structurally as the country nears the end of its fishing season, a phenomenon also observed in Kenya and Tanzania.

The current trend is related to Chilean shipments following the national holidays, when a high volume of exports was recorded, which has now moderated. This contraction is reflected in this week's arrivals, generating a proportional drop in total imports to the continent.

In terms of prices, the European market showed mixed performance. In Rotterdam, size 14 saw a 15% increase, while medium and small sizes experienced declines of around 10%, including size 32, one of the smallest. Despite these adjustments, European prices remain higher than those observed in the United States, where prices have been falling for several weeks.
