Europe maintains stable volumes in week 4, with significant changes in origins
The European market closed the fourth week of the year with 526 containers of avocados received, a figure that represents a 10% drop compared to the previous week and 2% below the same period last year. Despite this slight decrease, volumes remain in line with typical levels for this stage of the season, characterized by the absence of Peru as a major supplier.
In terms of distribution by origin, Israel dominated the market with 41% of shipments, followed by Spain with 22%, Chile with 13%, Colombia with 12%, and Morocco with 10%. The remaining shares, from Peru and Mexico, were less significant.
Israel saw a significant increase in shipments, rising 55% compared to the previous week to a total of 214 containers, solidifying its position as the leading supplier. Conversely, Colombia experienced a notable decline, with a 48% drop, equivalent to half the volume shipped the previous week. Chile also registered a 12% reduction, while Morocco's shipments fell by 46%.
As February approaches, the first shipments from Peru are expected to arrive, which could change the current market dynamics.
