Europe: Spain reaches a new price high and Colombia approaches 100 shipments
One of the most interesting pieces of data comes from the avocado trade in Spain, where a new record high was set for the price per kilo of fruit: Peruvian avocados reached $4. This hadn't happened since week 21, when the price reached $3.97.
Although Europe in general is a good destination in terms of prices, as the port area of Amsterdam remains stable and healthy, which encourages people from different origins to come to that continent, knowing that they will make a good business.
An example of this is Chile, which, although experiencing a temporary stagnation in its harvests, has prioritized the European market over the United States market, in a scenario where, moreover, Mexico leaves few options for other producers.
The only exception is the price at which Kenyan produce is being traded, which is impacted by some problems with the quality of the fruit that has arrived, which is also 74% lower than the volume recorded last week.
536 shipments reached Europe, representing a 22% decrease compared to the previous week. Even so, this figure is significantly higher than the same week last year (+72%), although it's misleading, as shipments experienced a sharp decline during this same period in 2023, a situation that is not usually consistent.
Peru continues to lead in shipments, but shows signs of gradual decline, now holding only 41% of the market. Colombia follows closely behind, significantly increasing its share. In fact, its shipments are 35% larger than last week, giving it an 18% market share.
This week 94 containers arrived from that country and it is expected that, once it reaches between 100 and 120, it will remain at that level until the end of the year.
Chile currently holds a 16% share, as shipments arriving this week are still impacted by the cold that slowed its harvest; and further behind are South Africa (12%) and Kenya - Tanzania (11%).
