Recent developments in the European avocado market
Spain, Israel and Colombia lead the European market after the arrival of 811 shipments
Europe records 811 shipments in week 10, with Spain leading the supply and price adjustments between Rotterdam and the Spanish market.
The European avocado market recorded a total of 811 shipments arriving on the continent in week 10, representing an 8% increase compared to the previous week and a volume 21% higher than that observed in the same period of 2025.
In terms of market share by origin, Spain continues to lead the supply with 26% of the total volume. Israel ranks second with 22%, followed by Colombia with 17% and Peru with 12%. Further behind are Chile and Morocco, both with a 9% share, while Mexico accounted for 2% of shipments and Kenya reached nearly 1%, also demonstrating a presence in the European market.
During the week, variations in volumes from different origins were observed. Increases were recorded in shipments from Chile, Mexico, Kenya, and Morocco, as well as from Peru, whose shipments grew by approximately 18% compared to the previous week. In contrast, Colombia showed a significant decrease, with a drop of nearly 16% in its shipments to the European market.
Price behavior varied among the main trading centers. In Rotterdam, a general decrease was observed in prices across all sizes, with the most pronounced drops in smaller sizes, which fell by up to 11%, while larger sizes saw more moderate reductions.
In Spain, however, the trend was different. Small sizes saw significant increases, exceeding 25% in some cases, while medium sizes also showed increases, albeit to a lesser extent. Large sizes, meanwhile, registered slight decreases. These movements helped to narrow the price range between the different sizes.
Columnist Jorge Molina points out that in Europe, signs of a downward price correction are already emerging after a prolonged period of market strength. He explains that the market typically anticipates and adjusts prices before supply reaches its peak.
In that context, the arrival of the Colombian cross-country harvest is also projected, which is expected to have a considerably lower volume compared to previous seasons.
