Spain offers different prices between Peru and Chile for the same calibers.
This week, 555 containers of avocados arrived in Europe from various origins. This figure represents an 8% weekly decrease, but is almost 30% higher than the same period last year.
In this market, there is a better market share compared to the United States. Chile holds 35%, while Colombia reaches 26%. Fruit from the latest Peruvian harvests is still arriving, accounting for 15% of the distribution in Europe; South Africa and Kenya remain present; and Israel has begun shipments, reaching 7% of the market. This origin is expected to grow week by week.
Contrary to expectations, Chile's export volume is lower than last week (-31%). Kenya's exports also decreased. This is not the case for Colombia, which increased its shipments by 13%.
Prices show a more noticeable difference than at other times of the season. In Spain, Chilean avocados of the same sizes fetch better prices than Peruvian ones. Good examples include size 18, which sold for $3.80 per kilo for Peruvian avocados, while Chilean avocados reached $4.56 per kilo. For size 30, Peruvian avocados traded at $2.17 per kilo, while Chilean avocados were paid $2.72 per kilo.
In Peru, medium and large sizes have been most affected. The 30-inch size saw a 17% decrease compared to the previous week.
In the Netherlands, prices remain stable.
