The European market is expanding: 2025 closes with the largest flow of avocados in a decade

Europe ended 2025 with record growth in avocado imports. According to Avobook's data team, container volumes increased by 17% compared to 2024, driven primarily by strong growth from Peru, Chile, and Colombia, and a notable increase from Spain. Several regions, however, saw their market share decline, resulting in a year of contrasts and supply chain realignments.

Europe closed out 2025 with unprecedented activity in the avocado market. The continent registered a year-on-year increase in imports, marking a recent milestone: from 36,472 to 42,845 containers, a 17% expansion based on projections from the final weeks of the year, according to the Avobook data team. This shift solidifies Europe's position as one of the most active destinations globally and redefines the relative importance of different supplying countries.

Peru once again took the lead, registering the strongest growth among the major players. The country increased its shipments by 39% compared to 2014, equivalent to 5,607 additional containers, further solidifying its position as the leading supplier. Colombia and Chile consolidated their positions as the second and third largest suppliers on the continent, with increases of 8% and 21% respectively, reinforcing their strategic position in the European market.

Spain surprises with the highest relative growth

The country that showed the most significant change was Spain, which increased its exports to the European market by 72%. This surge reflects the country's production expansion and its ability to complement imported goods, making it an increasingly important player in the supply balance.

In contrast, other origins saw a decrease in their shipments compared to the previous year. Israel, South Africa, Morocco, Brazil, and the combined Kenya & Tanzania category all registered declines. The most significant drop was from Kenya & Tanzania, with 743 fewer containers than in 2024.

The overall balance leaves Europe in a scenario of extraordinary volume, with a supply structure that continues to adjust as some origins strengthen and others retreat.

What happened in 2025 anticipates a highly competitive 2026 season, in which consistency of supply and quality will be key to sustaining participation in a market that, for the first time in years, operates with a record volume as the new standard.
