The rise of Colombian Hass avocados: sustainable growth and global projection

Established as the second largest supplier of Hass avocados in Europe, Colombia is boosting its export industry with sustainability and rural development.

Colombian Hass avocados continue to gain ground in the global market, with exports reaching 102,000 tons through September 2023, a 15% increase over the previous year, generating $218 million in revenue. This growth positions the country as the second largest supplier to Europe and the third largest provider of formal employment in the rural sector.

Thanks to its geographic location and favorable climate, Colombia produces avocados year-round, exporting primarily to Europe (85%) and North America (11%). Despite logistical challenges, the sector projects annual growth of 15%, supported by new hectares under cultivation and a commitment to sustainability.

Territorio Aguacate 2024, organized by Corpohass in Medellín, will be key to strengthening the industry, with activities such as business meetings, tours of crops and conferences on innovation and sustainability.
