The avocado harvest begins in the State of Mexico, the country's third largest producer.

With over 12,900 hectares dedicated to Hass and Hass Méndez avocado cultivation, the State of Mexico is beginning a new harvest season, reinforcing its position as one of the country's leading producers. Authorities and farmers are working together to ensure safe, pest-free production, targeting both national and international markets.

The rainy season marks the beginning of one of the most anticipated times in the fields of the State of Mexico: the avocado harvest. This state has established itself as the third largest producer nationwide, behind only Michoacán and Jalisco. Among the key municipalities in this sector are Villa de Allende, Coatepec Harinas, Tenancingo, Valle de Bravo, and Tejupilco, which are preparing to market their produce between July and December.

The harvest is carried out under the supervision of the State Committee for Plant Health (CESAVEM), in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, to maintain control of pests such as the corn borer. In addition, technical workshops and training sessions focused on good agricultural practices, responsible pesticide use, and food safety certifications are conducted, opening up new export opportunities.

Although Michoacán and Jalisco are the only states authorized to export fresh avocados to the United States, the State of Mexico continues to advance in phytosanitary standards that will allow it to access other markets. This new season not only represents a key source of income for the region, but also a boost to rural development, food sovereignty, and the promotion of the avocado as a symbol of Mexican agriculture.
