Colombia: Avocado exports reach a historic peak in 2024
Week 49 was a landmark week for Colombian avocados. With 214 containers exported, the country reached its highest volume of the year, marking a 9% increase compared to the previous week. This figure not only reaffirms the sector's sustained growth but also positions Colombia as a key player in international markets.
Europe solidified its position as the primary destination, absorbing 80% of shipments, while the United States received the remaining 20%. This distribution reflects the country's export strategy priorities, targeting markets that value the quality and consistency of Colombian products.
However, the outlook projects a moderation. By week 52, the number of containers exported is expected to fall to less than 200 per week, with a gradual reduction extending through the first weeks of 2025.
The peak in exports reached this season demonstrates the potential of Colombian avocados, but it also raises questions about the strategies needed to maintain this momentum in the near future.
