Colombia is making a big bet: it plans to triple Hass avocado exports to the US by 2025
The Andean country already has 39,000 productive hectares and hopes to position itself as a global supplier, promoting the "Avocados From Colombia" brand and an ambitious campaign in the North American market.
With sustained growth and nearly 55,000 hectares planted, Colombia is preparing for a decisive leap in the Hass avocado industry. In an interview with Portalfruticola.com , Katheryn Mejía Vergel, executive president of Corpohass, indicated that the country expects to triple its exports to the United States by the end of 2025, increasing from the current 15% to 50% of the total exported volume. This projection equates to approximately 80,000 tons, with shipments already showing a strong increase in the first months of the year.
The strategy focuses on positioning Colombian avocados for their flavor, texture, and sustainability, highlighting the logistical advantage of reaching key ports in the eastern United States in just three to five days. Under the brand “Avocados From Colombia,” promotional campaigns are being developed in partnership with the Colombia Avocados Board , prioritizing the U.S. East Coast as the entry point to gain market share against other origins.
At the same time, Colombia is making progress in diversifying its export destinations, with a presence already in more than 30 markets and a particular focus on Chile, Argentina, and Central America. Mejía emphasized that efforts are also underway to strengthen domestic consumption, while continuing to invest in research and agricultural efficiency. The goal is to consolidate a supply of high-quality fruit available year-round, solidifying Colombia's position as one of the most promising players on the global avocado map.
