Cofex expands the export of Dominican tropical fruits to Europe

The Dominican company strengthens its international presence with shipments of tropical avocado, pitahaya and Mingolo mango to Spain, France and other markets, standing out for its quality, flavor and logistical capacity.

Since 2021, Cofex, based in the Dominican Republic, has been dedicated to the marketing of fresh fruit for local consumption and export. It has been operating in Europe since 2023, focusing on tropical avocados, pitahaya, and Mingolo mangoes, taking advantage of market windows and long-shelf-life varieties. Currently, it exports between three and four containers of avocados weekly to Spain and France, with smaller volumes to the Netherlands and Italy. Its main varieties, Semil 34 and Carla, are suitable for sea freight due to their resilience, while Brazil remains its most direct competitor.

Pitahaya, in its white and red-fleshed varieties, is destined 85% for the local market, although in 2025 Cofex made its first significant shipments to Europe, reaching 25,000 kilos exported. The company acknowledges the competition from Spanish production during July but maintains positive growth expectations. Meanwhile, the Mingolo mango, a yellow-skinned variety highly regarded in the premium segment, is exported by air mainly to France, England, and Spain, with approximately 250 tons per season.

According to its representatives, price dynamics are influenced by supply and logistics costs, which vary among European markets. Even so, Cofex observes sustained growth in demand for tropical fruits and is confident in the sector's potential. "The market is moving; there is room to grow," its executives conclude.
