Weekly performance of the Chinese market

China falls to just 9 shipments in week 11

Avocado prices in China fell nearly 20% in week 11 in a market marked by low fruit arrivals.

The Chinese avocado market saw a sharp drop in arrival volume during week 11. Only nine shipments were recorded during the period, a significantly lower figure than in previous weeks. This volume represents an 87% decrease compared to week 10 and an 80% decline compared to the same week last year.

The decrease is mainly due to the continued intermittency in shipments from Peru. Although a larger volume was expected, no shipments from that origin were recorded this week. Instead, arrivals consisted of 7 shipments from Chile and 2 from Mexico, thus maintaining a reduced flow to this destination.

Meanwhile, prices showed a marked drop in the market. The decreases exceeded 15% and in some cases approached 20%. This behavior has been observed in previous seasons, when these weeks coincide with the period in which larger volumes begin to arrive from Peru, which usually alters market dynamics.
