Chile: Europe loses ground while Argentina positions itself
Week 49 marked a turning point for Chilean avocado exports. With a total of 184 containers shipped abroad, the volume registered a 15% drop compared to the previous week, although it maintained a notable 37% growth compared to the same period in 2023.
Europe, historically the main destination for Chilean avocados, received 94 containers, a level not seen since week 36. This represented 51% of total exports, followed by Latin America with 26%, Asia with 21%, and the United States with 2%.
Within this dynamic, Argentina emerged as a key player. With 42 imported containers, the neighboring country positioned itself as the second largest recipient of Chilean avocados, surpassed only by the Netherlands. This shift in trade flows underscores the growing importance of regional markets in Chile's export strategy.
Although Europe remains key, the decline in shipments reflects fluctuations in demand and efforts to diversify destinations, a trend that could consolidate in the coming weeks.
