Calavo launches XL labels to highlight its “Super Jumbo” avocados

The company is opting for an eye-catching design to increase the visibility of its larger calibers, in the middle of the import season from Peru.

Calavo Growers, Inc. has begun distributing a new, oversized PLU label to highlight its “Super Jumbo” avocados, in a strategy focused on capturing consumer attention at the point of sale. The stickers, which measure 36 mm x 26 mm and feature a vibrant pink color, are printed with the text “Super Jumbo” and are intended for avocados of size 36 or larger, under PLU 4770.

The initiative coincides with peak Peruvian imports from its partner Viru Group, just as a more balanced production curve is anticipated for the upcoming Mexican harvest. “Our larger avocados are truly special,” said Gordon Breschini, vice president of fresh sales at Calavo. “We want them to stand out for their value and versatility in guacamole, smoothies, salads, or burgers.”

Calavo also offers retailers the option to integrate these sizes without replacing their existing programs, including customized ripening solutions to ensure the best consumer experience. Avocados with the new labels began arriving in supermarkets this week, marking a new promotional boost for the category.
