Peruvian avocados pass the midpoint of their campaign with high demand and logistical challenges

Alcoaxarquía Group reports a strong start to the season and sustained growth in Europe, despite recent port delays and price pressures.

The Peruvian avocado season is progressing strongly and is currently at its midpoint, with volumes exceeding last year's levels. According to José Antonio Alconchel, CEO of Grupo Alcoaxarquía, the US market has readily absorbed the initial supply, solidifying Peru's export position. However, recent logistical issues at European ports such as Rotterdam and Algeciras have led to imbalances and oversupply, putting downward pressure on prices.

Despite these setbacks, demand in Europe continues to rise, with Germany as the main market and notable growth in Eastern Europe and Spain, where the group already allocates 20% of its sales. The company, based in Málaga with subsidiaries in Peru, Morocco, and the Dominican Republic, has increased its avocado volume in Spain by 30% and expects a 15% increase in Peruvian production this year, driven by new hectares being planted in both countries.

Looking ahead, Grupo Alcoaxarquía is already preparing for the next mango and avocado season in Spain, where it expects to surpass last year's yields. Alconchel anticipates that, although this year has been positive, more significant growth will be seen in 2025, further consolidating the group's international expansion and its commitment to market diversification.
