During the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holidays, retail sales of Hass avocados in the United States reached their highest level in four years, according to the Hass Avocado Board's (HAB) fourth-quarter report. A total of 167.5 million units were sold, generating $202.1 million in sales. Bagged avocados played a key role, with an average increase of 18.1% in volume during the holiday period.
Halloween saw the highest growth rate in unit sales, adding 4.5 million units to the category and contributing significantly to the 15.3 million additional units sold during the year. Thanksgiving sales exceeded 36.8 million units, with the bagged format leading the way, contributing 13.5% volume growth. Christmas sales increased by $8.3 million, reaching $52 million, while volume reached 42.7 million units.
Small avocados (PLU 4046) accounted for nearly half of all unit sales during the holiday week. Meanwhile, bagged avocados represented 26.6% of unit sales and showed a 9.8% growth rate, contrasting with the decline in other PLUs. The Great Lakes region led regional growth, with a 43.2% increase in units, solidifying the success of Hass avocados during the holiday season.
