Dominican avocado with green skin conquers international markets

SWG Group Inc., led by Samuel Villalona, highlights the value of the green-skinned avocado from the Dominican Republic, achieving a strong presence in the United States, Canada, and Europe thanks to its year-round availability and unique characteristics.

The green-skinned avocado from the Dominican Republic has secured a privileged position in the international market thanks to its exceptional qualities and year-round availability. Unlike the popular Hass, this Dominican variety boasts a flavor and size that have earned it acceptance in markets such as the United States and parts of Europe, especially during its peak season from October to April. SWG Group Inc., a company led by Samuel Villalona, has established itself as a key supplier, meeting this international demand for fresh and unique fruit from the Caribbean.

SWG Group, founded 17 years ago, exports not only avocados, but also mangoes, peppers, and other tropical products, managing every step of the supply chain. This comprehensive control guarantees quality and cost reduction, which, according to Villalona, is their main competitive advantage. “We constantly innovate in the field and work hand in hand with local producers to maintain high standards,” says Villalona, who considers this relationship essential to ensuring high-quality products in export markets.

Despite its success, SWG faces logistical challenges, with high transportation costs from the Caribbean being one of the operation's weaknesses. Nevertheless, the company has launched an expansion plan in the United States, aiming to reach areas like the West and Northeast, where green-skinned avocados still have significant potential.
