Three-quarters of avocado shipments from Chile and Colombia are destined for Europe

Chilean avocado exports show interesting news. Contrary to expectations, week 44 saw a significant number of shipments, with 382 dispatches. This is slightly lower than last week (-4%), but 63% higher than the same week last year.

Three-quarters of that fruit began its journey to Europe. Twelve percent will remain in Latin America, nine percent sailed to Asia, and only five percent was destined for the United States.

It is worth remembering that the peak of this season occurred between weeks 42 and 43, when almost 400 containers were shipped.

In the case of Colombia, also at the close of week 44, 192 shipments were recorded, with Europe remaining the main market (89%), while the remainder went to the United States. This represents a significant jump compared to the previous week (+19%), a much better performance than during the same week last year.

In the coming weeks, Colombia should exceed 200 containers per week. So far in 2024, and based on projections for the remainder of the season, it appears that three-quarters of that fruit is being shipped to Europe and the rest to the United States, with a small percentage remaining in Latin America.
