25 years PROHASS

Official statement from PROHASS:

“On this day, February 3, 1999, 25 years ago, a group of visionary agricultural producers decided to create the Association of Hass Avocado Producers of the Central Coast of Peru – ProHass. Initially, it only included producers from this area because we shared common processes: production and marketing. However, due to the interest shown by producers from other regions in joining our association, and with the desire to consolidate a more representative association, the General Assembly decided to modify the bylaws to broaden membership to any producer located in Peru. At this assembly, it was agreed to change the name of the Association to: Association of Hass Avocado Producers of Peru – ProHass.”

Over these 25 years, we have built a strong and committed community. During this time, the industry has grown and expanded from the Lima and Ica regions to encompass 19 regions across the country, evolving from avocado cultivation in fertile valleys to new irrigation projects on the coast, in the Andean valleys, and even into the rainforest. One of ProHass's main tasks has been to promote collaboration with the government to open markets and create opportunities for competitiveness. Simultaneously, packing plants have been established that are among the best and most modern in the world.

From the early days, when we were a small group with big dreams, to this day, we have grown and prospered together, facing challenges and overcoming obstacles with determination and unity, which has led us to become the world's second largest exporters of Hass avocados.

ProHass's role is fundamental in the productive and commercial context of this industry: global, mature, recognized worldwide not only for its quality, but also for being sustainable, with a great social impact and a human face, since behind each avocado harvested is the effort of more than 25,000 small and medium-sized farmers and hundreds of thousands of farm workers, who now live with dignity, thanks to the export avocado industry, becoming a determining factor for the creation of full employment in several regions of the country and lifting tens of thousands of families out of poverty.

Over these 25 years, we have achieved significant milestones, such as gaining access to the most demanding international markets, reaching 73 countries with our fruit. We have promoted it internationally and now locally, investing in research and development for our industry, with the strong support of our member companies and the National Agrarian University La Molina (UNALM), with whom we have a laboratory on their premises. This laboratory provides essential support in technical matters, scientific research, and business opportunities, thus obtaining valuable and timely information. We are also the only association with a quality, health, and sustainability department—critical elements in the current context of stringent official controls on the environment, residues, and quarantine pests in foreign trade.

We want to express our deep gratitude to all our associates, collaborators, and employees of institutions like SENASA who have contributed their time, knowledge, and effort to make ProHass a leader in the field. Each of you has played a fundamental role in the success of our mission.

Finally, we look to the future with optimism and commitment, based on the development of our industry, our competitiveness, and our strength in overcoming difficulties. Therefore, we are all confident that we will resume our path of increased production and, above all, the steady growth of shipments of our highest quality "green gold" to international markets. May this 25th anniversary mark the beginning of a new era filled with achievements, collaboration, and prosperity.
