2023: A successful year for Hass avocado exports from Colombia

The year 2023 marked a milestone in the Colombian Hass avocado agro-industrial, despite facing challenges such as the delayed harvest season and the impacts of the La Niña phenomenon.

Despite these challenges, the year ended on a historic note, with a record 5,125.5 forty-foot containers exported, representing a significant 26.4% increase compared to the previous year. This achievement is attributed to the sector's proactive approach, which transformed obstacles into opportunities to improve efficiency and differentiate the product.

Katheryn Mejía Vergel, executive director of Corpohass, highlighted the importance of this achievement, emphasizing its economic and social benefits for the country. She also underscored the sector's commitment to sustainability in its three dimensions: social, economic, and environmental. Looking ahead, a 20% growth is expected, supported by strategies for formalizing rural employment, protecting resources, and opening new markets.

The sector, led by Corpohass, will continue to prioritize knowledge transfer, product quality, and the opening of new markets, with the goal of consolidating Colombian Hass avocados as a sustainable, high-quality product in the global market.
