China increases volume as prices fall sharply

China grows 58% in volume and registers a 30% drop in prices

Week 12 in China reaches 84 shipments, with Peru dominating 96% and a sharp price drop of close to 30% in sizes 18-24.

The avocado market in China recorded a total of 84 shipments in week 12, in a context marked by variability in shipments from Peru. While the comparison with the previous week is not very representative due to the intermittent nature of shipments, the current volume is 58% higher than that recorded in the same week of 2015.

In the market composition, Peru accounts for 96% of the share, while Chile contributes the remaining 4%, in a phase where shipments from the latter origin are beginning to decrease and an increasingly concentrated presence of Peruvian fruit is projected.

In terms of prices, a significant drop is observed in the Chinese market, with a decrease of approximately 30% on average for sizes 18 to 24. This behavior aligns with patterns observed in previous seasons, where the increase in volume from Peru has been associated with pronounced adjustments in the price curve.
