Outstanding attendance at the Agrícola Goliat Field Day in Salamina, Caldas

On January 16, 2025 , Agrícola Goliat successfully held its Field Day in the Portachuelo village, on the road to San Pablo, in the municipality of Salamina, Caldas. The event brought together 65 farmers who actively participated in a technical workshop focused on demonstrating the benefits of high-density planting systems for Hass avocados, an innovation that is transforming the agricultural landscape in Colombia.

The workshop was led by Sebastián Vallejos and Gonzalo Vargas Carranza , owners of Agrícola Goliat and specialists with over 24 years of experience in Hass avocado cultivation. During the walk, participants visited various stations on the farm, where key techniques for optimizing production under an intensive system were presented.

Regarding the activities carried out, Gonzalo Vargas highlighted:

"It was done on-site, with a field day to observe the work being done at Agrícola Goliat and validate high-density plantings in Colombia. In this country, trees are planted at a very wide spacing, 7x7 meters, which delays production. As a result, the trees grow slowly but produce little, begin to dry out internally, and have very poor yields. During the walk, we showcased an intensive avocado system planted at a 5x2 meter spacing, with high density, and demonstrated the pruning techniques we use, including girdling and the application of foliar growth regulators to control bud break. We received support from a Mexican chemical company called Agroenzymas and the distributor Agrica."

Participants also received training in key areas such as soil microbiology, soil and foliar fertilization, crop stress management, and the use of biostimulants and growth regulators.

The activity was highly valued by the attendees, who highlighted the practical approach and the technical quality of the content presented.

Next activity in June: Pruning Workshop

Agrícola Goliat announced its next event, a Pruning Workshop scheduled for June, focused on perfecting this essential practice for the efficient management of Hass avocado cultivation.
