The avocado season in Peru is progressing rapidly, having reached nearly 25% of the estimated production. Compared to last year, there has been a significant increase in volume, which could affect market prices. However, thanks to a delayed start to the harvest by some major companies, prices have remained within reasonable ranges so far.

Furthermore, some companies are allocating volumes to markets other than Europe, which could help keep prices stable. The experience and business acumen accumulated over the years in the Peruvian market could lead to a year with returns that allow companies to finance their accounts for the following season.

The situation varies by region. In Olmos, some companies have already reached 50% or more of their estimated harvest, while others are just beginning. In La Libertad and along the central coast, dry matter accumulation is slow due to the current cold weather, which is delaying the start of the harvest for most companies. However, this cold weather could be beneficial for the plants, generating reserves and allowing for a good yield in the 2026 season.

The concentration of harvest volumes between June and July could cause a significant drop in prices. Therefore, it is crucial to seek new markets, as some companies in Argentina and Morocco are doing. The example of Morocco, which seeks producers in off-season areas after its own harvest season ends, shows that when a country begins cultivating a crop, it generates domestic consumption that can help regions with off-season production to export to them.

Let's hope this season is marked by the ability of the commercial areas of the main exporters to find new markets and keep prices stable.
