Avobook Report Preview W42-2024

The volume of Mexican fruit in the United States is pushing South American avocados into the European market.

In the Avobook Report for week 42, some things are very clear: Mexico leaves little room for other exporters in the United States, Chile leads the market share in Europe, but with a much more divided "pie" than in North America; and in China the volume received is less than the previous week and than on the same date in 2023.

For fruit arriving in the US market, prices are better than last week for larger sizes, but lower for smaller sizes. In Spain, there is a significant difference in the prices paid for avocados from Peru and Chile, with the latter fetching higher prices when comparing the same sizes. Israel is emerging in Europe, and Colombian fruit exports are growing week by week.

In China, no price trends are identified because, unlike past seasons, prices rise and fall from week to week without a clear pattern.
