Chile reaches record high in avocado consumption

Per capita consumption reached 8.9 kilos in 2025, consolidating Chile as the second largest consumer of Hass avocados worldwide.

Avocados continue to solidify their position in the Chilean market. In 2025, per capita consumption reached 8.9 kilos per person, surpassing the 8.6 kilos of the previous year and confirming a trend of sustained growth in the country. With this result, Chile ranks as the second largest consumer of Hass avocados worldwide, second only to Mexico.

The increase in demand is partly explained by a positive 2024-2025 season, which allowed for the allocation of more than 112,000 tons to the domestic market, equivalent to approximately 47% of total production. This is in addition to more than 60,000 tons imported, bringing the volume available in the country to approximately 178,000 tons, thus consolidating avocados as the fruit crop most geared towards local consumption.

Industry representatives emphasize that this level of consumption reflects a mature and dynamic market. Growth has been significant: in 2000, consumption barely reached 2 kilos per person, while in recent years demand has grown strongly, driven by greater availability, production competitiveness, and the avocado's positioning as a key food in the Chilean diet.
