EUROPE ANALYSIS

Peru surpasses 50% of the European market in week 16

Europe increased its import volume by 9% in week 16, with Peru as the main source and price drops in medium and small sizes.

The European avocado market showed more moderate growth in week 16 than that observed in the United States, although still significant. Import volume increased by 9% compared to the previous week and was 5% higher than that recorded in the same week of 2025, in a scenario where Peru consolidated its position as the continent's main supplier.

Avocado imports to Europe in April

With a 53% share, Peruvian origins now represent more than half of the European market at this stage of the season. Following behind were Spain, with 18%; South Africa, with 11%; Brazil, with 8%; and Colombia, with 6%, while Israel and Mexico contributed between 1% and 2%. Among the most notable movements of the week was South Africa, which practically doubled its arrivals compared to the previous week, in addition to the increases observed in Peru and Brazil. In contrast, the other origins registered declines.

In terms of prices, the trend was downward in both Rotterdam and Spain, especially for medium and small gauges. In Rotterdam, the most significant drops were seen in gauge 26, with a decrease of 18%, and gauge 32, with a decline of 13%. Large gauges and gauge 18, however, remained unchanged.

A similar dynamic was observed in the Spanish market. Larger sizes showed stability and even a slight increase of 2%, while medium sizes, such as size 26, fell by 13%, and the smallest sizes declined by up to 7%. The adjustment, therefore, was concentrated in the smaller formats, both in Rotterdam and in Spain.

Adding to this picture is Jorge Molina's perspective on the Colombian supply. He indicated that the current harvest of young wheat is not from a short season, as is usually expected each year, but rather is atypically less voluminous. This could translate into a lower volume available compared to initial projections or previous seasons.
