Mexico dominates 80% of the market, but the return is not forthcoming.

Mexico

Last week, Mexico's harvest destined for the United States market reached 25,948 tons, of which 21,100 were exported. This represents an 81% utilization rate and leaves a significant inventory of fruit in Mexico.

This week, a harvest of around 26,000 tons is estimated.

The hectares available for harvest this week are 37,500, down 3% from last week. Compared to the same week last year, we have 13% more available.

Mexico continues to increase its market dominance as volumes from Peru and California decline. Last week, market share was distributed as follows:

  • Mexico: 80%
  • California: 11%
  • Peru: 9%

Market conditions for Mexico have been challenging. While Mexican-made products remain a strong market, prices and returns for producers have not been good, forcing some producers to sell even within the domestic market.

Mexico's exports to other destinations continue to be dominated by Canada, with around 1,500 tons, followed by Central America, Asia and Europe in small quantities.

We expect the market to react and for a better return to be achieved; however, we will have a very competitive season.

Have a great week everyone.
