Weekly Analysis: Colombian Avocado and its New Projection in International Markets

We have identified a changing landscape in the Colombian avocado market. From week 21 to week 24, according to CorpoHass and data provided by the country's main exporters, a shift in export trends is evident. In week 21, 70% of exports were going to the United States, and this figure was projected to remain the same for week 22. However, a decline began, and by week 24, the projection had fallen to 50%.

In the case of Europe, the trend is upward, going from 30% to 35% for week 23 and to 50% for week 24.

Meanwhile, the average purchase price at the farm gate, including sizes from smallest to largest, ranges from 3,600 to 4,700 pesos per kilo, according to various exporters. This translates to an average of about 90 US cents per kilo. Current size distribution, as reported, shows 20% large sizes, 60% medium sizes, and 20% small sizes.

Right now, what we are observing is that the peak of the off-season, which may last two or three weeks, is expected to start decreasing slightly in mid-July, with the volume of fruit available for harvesting and exporting beginning to drop.

Similarly, prices in European markets remain more stable with a slight upward trend, while the North American market shows greater stability. We are also keeping a close eye on the Mexican harvest.

And finally, this week we were able to participate in the launch by Corpohass of the Aguacates de Colombia | Avocados from Colombia brand, which was launched to the public in Antwerp, Belgium, the most important port in Europe.
