Colombian avocado: between the off-season and the main season

As you know, the main Colombian avocado season, which officially begins in August 2024, has been projected since the beginning of the year with a higher volume than the previous season. However, the country's weather patterns have brought the season forward by approximately one month.

Currently, producers and field experts indicate that July will be a transitional month between the off-season and the main growing season. This information has been anticipated since week 21.

Last week, we discussed how sourcing proposals were becoming more creative, and that as fruit becomes scarce and prices rise in both the United States and Europe, buying directly from the source becomes more attractive to the producer.

Regarding the volume of cargo leaving the country, it remains at approximately 60% for the United States market and 40% for the European market. However, total volumes have been decreasing week by week.

What can we expect in the coming weeks?

The supply of Colombian avocados is likely to continue decreasing in the coming weeks, which could lead to a further increase in prices, both in the domestic and international markets.

Producers and exporters will need to pay close attention to weather conditions and market demands in order to adjust their production and marketing strategies in the second half of 2024.
