The search for new origins to supply Europe with avocados

We are in the final weeks of avocado loading in Peru, and it is confirmed that global exports will be similar to those of 2023. Now, the focus shifts to finding new sources to supply Europe. In this regard, Colombia and Chile are the main candidates, although it is important to note that volumes will be reduced in September due to the fruit's natural cycle.

Another player that enters the market at this time of year is Kenya, which will play a significant role during this stage of the season. However, the perceived shortage of fruit will likely lead to markets like Israel and Morocco being tempted to begin exporting in late October and early November due to market pressure.

In addition to supply, size will be crucial this season. Many origins, such as Kenya, Colombia, and to some extent Chile, offer a significant portion of medium and small sizes, which could affect demand and prices in the European market.

In short, finding new sources to supply Europe with avocados is a crucial task at this stage of the season. Supply and demand, as well as size and price, will be key factors determining the success of exporters and importers in the European market.
