Mexican avocado: market dominance
Mexico
Last week, the harvest reached 42,407 tons, of which 32,781 were exported to the United States, representing a significant increase in volume. In fact, 76% of the production was exported, leading to a surge in shipments on Monday and Tuesday, with approximately 10,000 tons shipped in just two days.
This week, a record harvest is expected, with a production of 46,000 tons, a figure that seems achievable. Regarding the planted area, significant growth was recorded, with 46,222 hectares, representing a 13% increase compared to the previous week, although 18% less than at the same time last year. This demonstrates improved yield per hectare.
Calibers remain consistent, with 48 and 60 gauge being the most prevalent. Mexico holds a 99% market share, practically monopolizing the supply. Prices have improved slightly, but it's crucial that inventories don't grow uncontrollably, which could lead to oversupply and a subsequent drop in prices.
January is shaping up to be a very busy month, and promotions have intensified due to the college football finals and the Super Bowl.
I wish you an excellent week
