Canary avocado drives production expansion in 2026
Growing demand in Spain leads Agrorincon to expand its area and capacity, consolidating the position of Canary Island avocados.
The surge in popularity of Canary Island avocados in the domestic market is driving new growth strategies among the sector's leading players. In this context, Agrorincon has decided to expand its production capacity to meet sustained demand, particularly from the retail sector. The company plans to add 45 new hectares by 2026, strengthening its presence in the archipelago.
With operations in Tenerife , La Palma , Gran Canaria, and La Gomera , the company has seen a growth in orders from its main client, Mercadona , which in 2025 exceeded 2 million kilos purchased. This dynamism has prompted an investment of nearly €1.5 million, allocated to both agricultural expansion and infrastructure improvements, including the expansion of its ripening and packaging center in Los Realejos.

The sector's development is supported by the archipelago's unique agro-climatic conditions, which have led to the granting of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) for Canary Islands Avocado . This recognition validates the product's distinctive characteristics, both in terms of quality and organoleptic profile, strengthening its position in the national market.
Currently, Agrorincon manages approximately 350 hectares and supplies various avocado varieties for much of the year. Among these, the Hass stands out as a leader in international trade due to its flavor and dry matter content, while the Fuerte is valued for its creamy texture. The combination of expanded production, investment, and a distinct origin is positioning Canary Island avocados as an increasingly important player in the Spanish market.
