Avobook Report W28-2024

Europe receives the largest quantity of Peruvian avocados this season, and Mexico is recovering its position in the United States.

The Avobook W 28 Report highlights a significant increase in avocado volumes shipped from Peru to Europe. Of the 961 containers that arrived, Peru is the main contributor, with 640, its highest export figure so far this year. Despite this growth, a sharp decrease is anticipated in the coming weeks, ahead of the arrival of Chilean avocados. Prices remain stable in the port areas of Amsterdam and Spain, with a slight drop in smaller sizes.

In the United States, Mexico has regained market share, reaching 45% and displacing California avocados (28%). Peru remains strong with 11 million pounds, followed by Colombia with 4.5 million. The Canadian market has shown remarkable growth for Mexican exports from Michoacán to destinations outside the United States, increasing its share from 50% between weeks 1 and 27 of 2023 to 60% in the same period this year. This growth is inversely proportional to sales in Europe, allowing other origins to fill the gap left by Mexico.

In the Asian market, Peru continues to dominate in China with 44 containers, although a reduction is expected in the coming weeks. Prices in this market show little variation between large and small sizes, with a difference of only $0.30 per kilo. The Peruvian season is in its final stage with record volumes in Europe, but an earlier-than-usual exit from the market is anticipated.
