Chilean avocados: the industry renews its image and projects a new stage of growth

The Avocado Committee officially announced its name change to "Avocados of Chile", marking the beginning of a new stage for the industry.

Santiago, April 23, 2026 – During the seminar “Avocados from Chile: sustainable origin, global reach”, held this Thursday at the Intercontinental Hotel, the Avocado Committee officially announced its name change to “Avocados from Chile”, marking the beginning of a new stage for the industry.

The meeting brought together authorities, representatives from the agricultural world and experts from the sector, including the Undersecretary of Agriculture, Francesco Venezian; Antonio Lante, manager of Exportadora Baika Chile and Peru; Sara Swinburn, in charge of Sustainability at Exportadora El Parque; Pablo Vidal, general manager of Sustenta+; Elir Rojas, researcher at Cazalac; and Nicolás Castellón, CEO of MIIDO, in addition to a panel moderated by Sebastián de la Cuadra, CEO of Avobook.

This transformation reflects the evolution of the industry over more than two decades, accompanying the development of an industry that today has a presence in nearly 40 international markets, high quality standards and a solid reputation based on its traceability and production consistency.

“The move to 'Avocados of Chile' reflects who we are today: a consolidated industry, aware of its environment and demanding of itself. This change allows us to better project our purpose and strengthen the bond with people, building trust for the future,” said the president of the association, Francisco Contardo Sfeir.

During the last few years, the industry has experienced significant growth, reaching a production of 240,000 tons in the 2024-2025 season, the highest in 15 years, and consolidating a robust production floor, driven by improvements in management, technology and efficiency.

In parallel, the sector has made consistent progress in sustainability, with a roadmap aligned with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda. Currently, 95% of companies in the industry adhere to the Sustainable Development Goals, 100% of farms measure their water consumption, and the vast majority have implemented measures to optimize water use, reflecting a concrete commitment to the environment and local communities. All of these advances have positioned Chile as an international leader in sustainability within the avocado industry, a recognition that has been validated in global industry forums.

The change to “Avocados from Chile” also seeks to strengthen the industry's connection with the country and its identity, in a context where avocados have become one of the most representative foods of the national diet, with a consumption of close to 9 kilos per capita annually.

“This is a natural step on the path we have traveled. The industry has grown, raised its standards, and learned to produce more efficiently and responsibly. Today, we want to project that work forward, with an identity that better reflects who we are and what we want to continue building,” added Contardo Sfeir.

With this new stage, Paltas de Chile reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting sustainable, competitive and high-quality production, contributing to the country's agricultural development and consolidating its position in international markets.
